Yesterday (September 5, 2008) the Instituto Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AYA) reported that there are 13 beaches in this country who have problems with coliform contamination. It was noted that the level of contamination was found in 240 fecal coliforms per 100 milliliters of water. Among those allegedly responsible can be found some tourism projects, hotels and restaurants, which did not take into account the environmental factor, and as this could adversely affect his business.
According to the Laboratorio Nacional de Aguas risks involved to swim in these waters may involve skin infections, respiratory infections and diarrhea.
The main concern of the sector concerned is that without the preservation of natural beauty, the sustainability of tourism development and real estate is put at risk.
To eliminate this problem is necessary to control the discharge of sewage into the sea by what they have proper sewage treatment in a real estate project or tourism is of vital importance.
